WITH a motto like ‘Fun, Frivolity, Fair Play’ the Tuncurry Forster Football Club is sure to put on a show for its 2008 Golden Balls Weekend.
Running from Saturday, October 11 to Sunday, October 12 the tournament is in its sixth season and this year promises to be the biggest yet.
The weekend will see men’s over 35s and ladies over 25s teams descending upon Tuncurry from as far south as Sydney and up to the Macleay Valley in the north.
All games will be played at the South St sporting fields in Tuncurry, home of the Tuncurry Forster Tigers Football Club, kicking off at 9am.
Spectators are welcomed to this football feast, which is a glorious showcase for the football skills that many keep locked away for the other 363 days of the year.
As well as the sporting extravaganza, there is a barbecue running throughout the weekend, with chef Len Cheers turning out mouth-watering steak and sausage sandwiches as well as egg and bacon rolls.
To quench the thirst, we have the regular canteen offerings as well as the Carlton van, which has a variety of ice cold beverages.
The Great Lakes Warriors will be returning to defend their 2007 crown, although the task will be tougher with well credentialed teams from Lane Cove and Barnsley making the trip north. In the ladies ‘That’s Gold’, now known as Keen 2 Screen, our girls are back to defend their title with the danger likely to be the Lane Cove team. Teams play round robin games on Saturday, with results determining their placement in Sunday’s knockout games and ultimately a place in the final. This year there will be the added drama of knockout games going to a player drop off, if the scores are tied at the end of regular time.
