A WOMEN’S leaguetag game will be played in conjunction with Group Three Rugby League fixtures in 2009.
This was determined at the group’s annual meeting on Sunday.
Similar competitions are played in other country competitions.
“We had reports from those competitions and all said how the addition of the women’s games has proved to be a success,’’ Group Three secretary Barrie Smith said.
Matches will be 15 minute halves and will start at the conclusion of the under 18s. The leaguetag competition will be coordinated by Group Three development officer Kylie Hilder.
“Kylie is confident that all our clubs will field teams in the leaguetag,’’ Mr Smith said.
Sides will consist of 11 players.
“ At this stage Kylie is confident of organising women to referee the games although that still has to be confirmed,’’ Mr Smith added.
There will now be an earlier start for games, with the under 18s kicking off at noon followed by the leaguetag, reserve grade and first grade. Mr Smith said first grade should be underway from around 3.10. Mr Smith was unsuccessful with a motion to swap the times for under 18s and reserve grades.
“The clubs argued that because of players working on Saturdays, many reserve graders would struggle to get to the games if they started earlier,’’ he said.
However, from next year under 18s will have 35 minute halves, with 30 minutes each way for reserve grade.
