Adventure entries starting to roll in

20/08/2008 12:25:00 PM
THE entries are rolling in - pardon the pun - to Richard Old’s team ‘Is there any fat in that?’

Mr Old, who also happens to be the Great Lakes Tourism manager, has entered the Forster Anaconda Adventure race in a two-person team with Danielle Donnelly. He’ll be doing the swim, run and mountain bike leg while she will take on the paddle.

So from a quick scan of entries listed so far on www.anacondaadventurerace.com/forster you can see it’s a race for all kinds of competitors. The race will take place on August 30 and 31 with individuals and teams competing in either the one or two-day category.

Locals feature prominently in the various team categories like the all-female Girl Power made up of runner Donna Bartlett, swimmer Michelle Gray, mountain biker Christine Johnson and paddler Mary Webster.

Up against the Channel 7 corporate team Mission Possible lead by Today Tonight’s Anna Coren are Team YMCA lead by Simon Murrell from Forster and a team from Trinity Signs in Tuncurry lead by Adam Mulligan.

Families are also getting into the act with Mark, Carl, Erica and Joel Noonan from Forster entering in the mixed team category.

Forster’s Steve Pulley is rearing to go in the individual veterans (over 50) category with a new mountain bike while well-known Redhead Athlete Boyd Conrick will line up in the open event (18 to 39 years).

Over 300 competitors took part in last year’s inaugural event and organisers Rapid Ascent are hoping to improve on that number but as yet numbers are still hovering around the 230 mark.

The Forster race will be round two of The Anaconda Adventure Race National Series, which kicked off on the Gold Coast on August 10.

Three-times world adventure racing champion Richard Ussher from New Zealand took out the men’s title and Palm Beach local Nicole Rutland was the first woman over the line.

After Forster, the series will move to Western Australia in November and wrap up in Victoria in December.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
